About Guided Imagery & Music Therapy

The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) is a specialised field of Music Therapy that offers an exploration of inner processes to effect the integration of all aspects of emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing. GIM is a supportive therapy suitable for people suffering a wide range of life issues and illness.

GIM therapists use specifically chosen programs of classical music selected to suit the client's problem. GIM is an internationally accredited therapy that draws on research which is published in academic journals.

Classical music supports the client’s emotional experience, stimulates the imagination and provides time for clients to explore inner processes. Memories, imagery, feelings, emotions and body sensations can be evoked during the supportive relaxation of a GIM session. GIM therapists are specially trained to support and help clients understand the imagery experienced during GIM. Because GIM is client focussed the method promotes insight, commitment to change, trust in the healing process and enables living in the here and now through the experience of personal reflection.

GIM therapists come from a range of allied health professions and are required to complete a 3 year Post Graduate Diploma at the University of Melbourne before being eligible for registration with the Australian Association for Music and Imagery. Supervision is a compulsory requirement both during and after training.
